Steven Universe gem species tags

It's still not clear to me what, visually speaking, Gem (Steven Universe) is even for. It seems to be in the same category as Oripathy Lesion (Arknights), Vision (Genshin Impact), and Tacet Mark (wuthering waves), i.e., a series-specific tag denoting some minor detail of a character's appearance that is present on most of the characters in the series, and therefore doesn't indicate anything useful.

EDIT: Or is it a species tag for all the non-human characters in the show? But if most of the characters are non-human, then what's the point.

The main way to distinguish a Gem from a human is that the former will have colored skin and a gem embedded somewhere in her body. Steven is half human and half Gem, so he has a gemstone, but his skin looks no different from a full-blooded human's. However, I don't think the tag was meant for him in the first place.

A colored skin search should be enough to find most of them, though there are some like Garnet, Pearl, and Rose Quartz whose skin tones are not that far off from human skin tones and thus aren't always drawn with colored skin.

Also, there actually is a fairly large cast of human characters in the show. They just lost prominence after the series shifted its focus more towards Gem lore. A lot of them don't even have posts here.

Tacet Mark (Wuthering Waves)

FWIW: I use this as a containment tag to avoid gardening headaches with or polluting other tags. People would not be able to diferentiate or decide whether it is a facial mark/body markings, a tattoo or a scar - that discussion from a long time back of which inspired me to create it because even the people I was discussing with couldn't tell. The tag and wiki help to reduce that confusion because otherwise people would randomly tag it or not at all if there was nothing pointing people in the right direction.

It's more to the likes of archon mark or, if it was generic enough, an implicated type/shape of another tag. It also seems significant enough if you take characters like Yangyang who have it blatantly visible across their forehead.
