Regarding several bad Warhammer tags

Posted under General

Warhammer appears to be a breeding ground for tags that are either unclear, or too broad. Most notable is chaos (Warhammer), which appears to be for just about any character related to the Chaos faction. This is absurdly broad because it's in turn composed of several subfactions. Just like with SU gem species, it would be preferable to instead have a tidy list of characters and species on a dedicated wiki page.

On the other hand there's Chaos God. This one is instead a small group of 4-5 members, but it gets tagged on every post that has at least one of them, when group tags require the entire group to be present in an image.

Heresy is probably the worst. It's a canon/lore tag for anything that's considered "heresy" inside the WH4K. It's too abstract to be a tag, and completely meaningless to anyone who is not a hardcore WH nerd. There are a few non-WH posts (mostly about giving characters big boobs) with the same problems. This one should probably get nuked, it's worthless.

And then there's a bunch of others like butchers nails, daemon prince and demon primarch. Maybe WH fans can see something I don't, but I don't understand if these are supposed to be species or a group. And what is the difference between death guard and plague marine? These tags need wikis explaining what exactly they're describing, not simply the associated lore.

It's pretty clear from Chaos God's post history and the fact it's in the singular form instead of plural that it was never intended to be a group tag. The wiki description refers to them collectively but doesn't say it only applies to the entire group. Whether it should be a group tag is another story.

Heresy seems pretty hard to defend. Even outside the context of Warhammer, it just seems to be shorthand for "alternate_x (mostly breast size) that fans don't like". Fandom opinion isn't static or anything, so some of those could become dated if they haven't already.

The butchers nails wiki describes it as a surgical procedure, so I assume it could apply to any character of any franchise if they are depicted as having the surgery done to them. Though maybe a more general name like wire in head or cable in head would be more appropriate. At the very least, we should rename it to butcher's nails if we decide to keep it.

Chaos (warhammer) is a faction tag, so that usage is completely correct and in tune with other Warhammer faction tags, like Astra Militarum, but the wiki definitely needs a tune-up. Chaos God should probably be deprecated in favor of tags for the specific gods. And butchers nails can probably be aliased to something like cable in head so we can use the tag elsewhere.

My tisms are activated so can explain some of this, Daemon Primarchs are Primarchs that became Daemon Princes (mortals that ascended to Daemonhood), Death Guard is a specific CSM faction and Plague Marines are thier marines, though DG successors can have them (or Black Legion or some other undivided band), it’s arguably a redundant tag, both are arguably lol
