Fingernails, nail polish, and nail colors

create alias nail_polish -> colored_nails
create alias toenail_polish -> colored_toenails

I think it's a huge problem that there's no implication hierarchy between nail color tags, nail polish, and fingernails. It's basically prevented by two things:

  • The naming of nail polish being interpreted as not applying to "naturally colored" nails, so BURs to imply the colors to it have never went through
    • I don't think anyone would argue that the nail polish tag is only for when you can tell that it's literal nail polish that's been applied, applying manicure and painting fingernails exist for that
  • toenail polish implies toenails and nail polish but that prevents nail polish from being able to imply fingernails
    • If toenail polish is enough to imply toenails then it should be reasonable for an eventual fingernail polish / colored fingernails tag to imply fingernails

I think it would be really nice to eventually have an implication hierarchy that goes like this:

  • black_fingernails -> colored_fingernails -> fingernails
  • black_toenails -> colored_toenails -> toenails

But I think it needs to be taken step-by-step instead of trying everything in one BUR, so I think we could at least agree to alias nail polish -> colored nails and toenail polish -> colored toenails first right?

BUR #50215 has been rejected.

remove implication toenail_polish -> nail_polish

Regardless of how the tags are named, these really should be separate concepts. Like I said, toenail polish gets to imply toenails but it prevents nail polish from being able to imply fingernails. Does anyone really think it's reasonable to leave it that way? This would have to get passed first before anything else can really be done.

Just to emphasize how bad it is, you would have to know that you're supposed to manually tag fingernails + nail polish + the nail color if you want to tag things properly because nothing's set up in a way that allows implications. If I want to search for all posts with fingernails then I actually have to search ~fingernails ~nail_polish ~*_nails -toenail_polish. It's ridiculous.

imo these tags are weird because colors like purple nails can be used for either toenails or fingernails so it's one tag for both, but then this tag is an implication instead of an alias. maybe the colored nails tags should be separated so you have purple toenails too?
