Also, technically, the car depicted here is a NASCAR Nextel Series (now just Cup Series) car, placing this within the 2004 to 2007 portion of the Gen 4 car. That was later replaced with the Gen 5, better known as Car of Tomorrow (CoT), that used a front splitter and rear wing rather than a spoiler and air dam for 2007 until 2010 when the traditional rear spoiler returned.
It's hard to say what car this is supposed to be (or close to being). The nose could be similar to the Chevrolet Impala, but the headlight sticker doesn't match. It's also possible to argue that the nose looks a bit like the 2005 Dodge Charger design that replaced the Intrepid body that only ran for 2004. It had a shaped nose that replicated the Charger's jutting grille rather than the rounded nose of the Intrepid. But, as with anything in fan works within a fantasy world, it could just be "a car."
Some additional fun facts about the 96 car in that 2004 to 2007 timeframe. The number was a used on a Ford Taurus in 2004 (which only appeared in two races with Mach 1 Motorsports with two different drivers, Larry Gunselman and Derek Cope), not run in 2005, and a Chevrolet Impala in 2006 and 2007 with Hall of Fame Racing driven by three different drivers (Terry Labonte, Ron Fellows, and Tony Raines).
