I actually am in the boat where this is kinda worth analyzing and not always being on board with. I know in the past we've always seen upgrades when going from skin to skin and depending on how long its been since the last skin for a shipgirl it can be more extreme than at other times but some of the recent upgrades and changes have maybe been way too much. I have a friend that loved the heck out of the original Lexington design but now refuses to recognize the new Lexington II as her in any form and fashion cause so much changed there (more than it did with Yorktown II which still threw him off if only slightly)....and when i showed him this skin for Prinz he thought it was changing a bit too much where it was starting to not resemble her old self at all anymore.

TBF, it's been 8 years (7 years for the English version) since the original Lexington first came out in Azur Lane (post #2948841). A lot of shipgirls have gotten redesigns with retrofits or Type II versions since then. The general art style then and now has changed a lot. Designs are generally sexier/lewder now compared to the beginning when the art style was cuter and less blatantly lewd. Lexington II just has a new dress and the new Type II rigging in the same style as the other Eagle Union Type II ships. The buff to her chest is relatively minor in comparison to what other shipgirls have received.
Your friend's reaction is understandable though since it's pretty much the only major update to her design after all these years (her OG's last skin came out in 2019 iirc (post #3404322)) so the change can be shocking to fans of her original design. Prinz Eugen, however, has had many new skins throughout the years so the "buff" has been more gradual and easier to accept since she's not the only shipgirl to receive a sudden "buff" or a difference in art style in similar types of skins.
Overall, I don't think we'll be seeing fewer "buffs" as long as people keep paying money for these skins.

Cuter vs sexier, this feels like something where Manjuu is making a false dichotomy, and a character can easily be both sexy AND cute at the same time, whatever that means.
Didn't they say they wanted Azur Promilia to be the "cute" one (still sexy tho) while Azur Lane is only "sexy"?
Is it me or is azur lane going straight to the extreme lewdness with big proportions on almost everybody?
Going? It's been there for a number of years now. They use to have a great number of different boba sizes but now they are either Small, Big or Daaaaaaamn!
