The crazy thing is these are actually the same elf just give or take a few hundred years.

It's seems that it is only in the anglosphere that they are the same being.

In France for example it's Lutin that work for Santa workshop.

In Denmark it's elver and nisser.

The progression should end with wood elves, not high elves. Santa's elves would evolve into elves living in a tree workshop slaving away making cookies. After enough time they'll complete their final evolution into "feral" (disgruntled) wood elves who will murder anyone (especially humans) for the arbitrary excuse of "damaging" their forest.

If high elves did also come from Santa's elves, they'd have to be derived from the foremen class.
