I find myself perplex’d by the dilemma, whether my fair lady-soldiers ought to be represented in their grande tenue or tenue de campagne. The former with all its ornament and ceremony, conveys the pride of the regiment and the cause for which she fights; yet the latter though humbler in appearance, conveys the individual character and personal history of the wearer.
