maybe European don't have that kind of story, but usually that animal is believed to be really difficult to handle. Never ever kill a snake in the house, or disaster will come. Even seeing the corpse of snake on the street is said to bring curse to the person seeing it.

So usually if a snake came into the house, it's better to leave it to the experts to take it out without killing.

In europe (as far as I know,) we don't have that kind of story due to the influence of Christianity. which made people think that all snakes (talking or not) are the servants of satan, and therefore should at the very least be shunned or killed.

I always like to discover how certain kinds of animals are seen in different cultures.

It's not like they're seen as much better in the east all the time like dragons.

The Mishaguji, curse gods subjugated by Suwako are also pictured as snakes (at least in Touhou, I remember someone said traditionally they're pictured like worms).

In the country I live in, there's a common story that still goes even in this modern age. A snake came into villager's house. Scared, the man/woman killed that snake. Later, their children are born with defects or died before birth. Other story said the children are born with snake-like features such as scales, or they slither like snake.
Even after asking help from the local "wise man", the feud against that snake is difficult to resolve. That's why it's highly recommended to never kill a snake in the house.
