Here’s my contribution for the doujinshi “Tenchi Yokocho: -Re:Ignition!-!” Featuring Nagi and Ken-Oh-Ki looking spiffy~

This was a fun one to try and do in about, uh, a week! That’s how much time I had from idea to finished product, since the organizer invited me around the same time he started to start working on the doujinshi. They were on a quick deadline! I’m still not sure how I made it, given how extremely slow I am with other deadlines. I guess taking this one to be my “picture” for the 30th anniversary of Tenchi Universe gave me enough juice to do it. I’d been working on the 30th anni pic but it wasn’t panning out…so I took this one to be it, instead.

There’s one or two mistakes though, but considering everything else, I can live with them.

References for the image below this post, with some more notes! One of the few times where the references are more “surface” than “matching meaning.” But I enjoyed the attempt~

As you can see, Nagi is sitting on a golden throne of sorts. It’s meant to emulate the throne that the king sits on in Maxfield Parrish’s “The Young King of the Black Isles.” The rectangular shape that’s on top of a black background, between the golden giant cymbal-esque shape and Nagi’s throne, is also inspired by the textures on Parrish’s paintings.

This specific illustration of Nagi took more from Enya’s interpretation of the painting from her album “The Memory of Trees.” The cymbal-esque, however, is completely new, with the frames around it reflecting more of a Juraian inspiration.
