Artist's commentary
Long time no see, huh?
Now’s time for hugs and stuff. Is it over? Fine.
Okay, now let’s get to the point, shall we?
I reposted this from my Instagram. Because I am a lazy butt.
⚠️STORY AHEAD: Two weeks ago, I was looking for “Butterfly” on Spotify (that ai ai ai song from chinese toy phones). In Smile.dk radio, there was a song from this movie I am going to present to you. So I played it and suddenly I had an urge to make. Fanart. Now. Nostalgia hit me very hard because I’ve been watching this 20-year-old movie a lot when I was a kid.
So. This is an animated movie called “Help! I’m a fish!” (Hjælp! Jeg er en fisk! in original Danish release). One sentence plot: Three children are turned into fish when they visit a mad scientist and subsequently find themselves embarking on an amazing underwater adventure.
The movie wasn’t made by any big studio, instead it was a collab between multiple studios in Germany and Denmark, all under the supervision of directors Stefan Fjeldmark, Michael Hegner and Greg Manwaring. It had a premiere on October 6th 2000 in Denmark and exactly today, 10th August it premiered in the UK. I think it’s quite underrated, since no one has ever talked about it, movie reviewers haven’t touched it, too. What a pity. I encourage you to watch it at least once. Maybe sometimes it’s a bit darker but overall it’s a fun little animated film when you have nothing to do.
I’m proud of this piece because I used some brushes in Sketch I don’t use often and that fluid cloud looks really cool with them!
