Ah, so the background is sort of abstract and surreal to represent how Lilly would probably "see" the world around her. While she doesn't know what the town looks like, she has a general idea how a house is shaped, and she knows the streets well and where the houses are located. But mostly it's just a gray mass of vague shapes. She knows the town is there, but it's always alien in a sense. Things like flowers, grass or people are a lot easier to get to know with senses like touch and smell, and they're a lot more pleasant to those senses too. Woah, Doomfest put a lot of thought into this.
