I think this is one of the few cases where "Absolutely Everyone" is entirely accurate in a Touhou picture.

I can't believe someone like Kasen or Momiji are more popular than her.

Momiji has the whole "puppy-dog" moe or her badass guard wolf characterization so that's pretty understandable. Kasen I assume got her spike after people got WaHH more readily.

I've been following the fandom for years but it is the first time I've seen this whole poll thing, yes.
Given her character and her nature, I just don't see how Reimu gets 1st. It took me the longest time just to even tolerate her, lol.

Canonically she's actually alot nicer than her Fanon portrayal, plus her Alphes Style has a high cute factor, personally I blame her crazy-eyed MMD.

Well there's the issue, you base yourself more off fanon than canon. Even more so with the Chen aspect you mentioned.

I guess the majority of people who know about the poll are the ones who know about the stuff the actual Touhou is about.

It's not about how often they appear (though arguably that really helps). It's about fanon and perceived character.

Mokou is, in fanon, often portrayed as either a tragic figure or a complete badass. (Seriously, how many images does she have in the badass pool?) Kaguya, meanwhile, has the same issue, so to speak, and the same number of appearances, but in fanon she's portrayed a lot more negatively (obviously interpretations vary).

Looks like the SDM is the most popular house. Sakuya and the Scarlet sisters are in the top ten. Patchy and Meiling are 17 and 21 respectively. Meanwhile, the worst performing members are much, much futher back. Let's see...

Myouren Temple: Ichirin - 74th
Eientei: Tei - 63rd
Taoists: Tojiko - 68th
Yakumo: Chen - 53rd
Komeiji: Rin - 42nd

And all with more development than Koakuma (56th). Then again... Momiji got 22nd.

All the SDM members you mentioned regularly appear in the comics and have been in the fighting games since 7.5 (even Meiling), which has boosted their popularity.

Dunno man, the way Akyuu writes about her in Perfect Memento seems to imply she IS as dangerous as fanon portrays her, and IS quite an ass (what with the whole "Threat level: Extremely high" and "Human friendship level: Worst"). Although the whole ax crazy personality is certainly non-canon.

Let's not forget what she apparently said to Shinki is Mystic Square. That genocide was just another game to her. If anything, while Yuuka doesn't really have a fleshed out canon personality, I would think how the fanon portrays her is close to how she would actually act given all the evidence.

Can't say much about the poll. I would just like Utsuho to be higher. I'd like to think she's more popular than that. At least she's higher than Cirno! :D

I think Sanae's popularity was in part due to her utter insanity in UFO, which was toned down substantially in TD. I miss crazy conspiracy-theorist alien-hunting Sanae (also her shot type sucked in TD).
