Is it just me, or does this seem to be a parody of Avatar and the Na'vi?

The artist labelled the picture Cu Chulainn, but I've forgotten the significance of blue skin in Irish mythology.

Most likely it's a reference to the fact that ancient Irish warriors charged into battle naked and painted blue in history. Lancer's blue jumpsuit in the actual canon might be a throwback to that.
