I'm looking forward to this series, though the characters look plumper from the drawings I've seen of the anime in comparison to the manga. Also, it might just be my ignorance of the Japanese language, but the nicknames they're using on ANN seem really odd and I hope there aren't any official subs that use them. It seems that there are perfectly good English equivalents or the name ANN is using seems to be a transliteration of a transliteration.

Examples:
Nickname (full name) -> ANN listed nickname
Sixteen (M16A4) -> Ichiroku
G3 (G3A3) -> Jiisuri
FAL (FAL L1A1) -> Faru

I'm also sure they made a translation error (the scanslation for the manga did the same). There is an instructor just named ガーランド (Gārando), but given the setting he's most likely a M1 Garand .
Garand -> ガーランド -> Garland
