Remilia has a weakness vs. Sunlight. She's my favorite touhou, but if she had won against Okuu in this situation I'd call bad writing.
thinking about it it makes sense. A sun is a sun regardless of wether it is the real thing or created so it was more a matter of luck on okus part. Although if they where to fight again remi would probably win since she would know what to expect and plan for it.

I'm not sure about this. A youkai's weaknessess are determined by it's "myth", so you have vampires and oni weak against roasted soybeans, while the same things cooked in another manner are ineffective to them. In the same way, when humans created the vampires' myth, they made them weak against sunlight not because they actually knew what the Sun is and how it works, but because it was a "big and luminous thing in the sky" that purifies and vaporizes night-related creatures like vampires (and Rumia, probably). Otherwise, vampires should also be weak to moonlight since it's just reflected sunlight.
