I'm pretty sure it was more accurate, albeit a little embellished. I've always heard ガチレズ used to mean "actual lesbian". As in, opposed to yuri that's just shipping goggles and undertones, "extra special friends" strategic ambiguity, groping in the bath, or the phase-she'll-grow-out-of kind.
