This is why Pokemon starts you with a Lv.5 and not a Lv.1. Most young (or older alike) trainers (In Universe) would KO their own pokemen. At least, they would have in Gen 1 or 2 when the starters were cute/adoreable. Poor 5cmRemi, it must be hard being a Lv.1.
