Well, it's not really pulling her hair back along her scalp so much as it is just propping it up a little on her forehead, then parting. It makes slightly more sense if you look at it that way, but i see where you're coming from.
In a series with art like that of HnG, they think more about the style as a whole > strands/flow. When Taka took a shot at it, you can see where those styles collide.
