This reminds me of some disturbing vids I watched where some Russians scientists back in the 40s performed various medical experiments on dogs including reviving a severed head.

I know the videos you refer to (and I suspect the artist does as well)... the reason you're reminded of those videos is probably because the blood pump/aeration setup pictured here is the same as in those videos.
