On the other hand, Reimu has no idea what Alice's note means, so it's possible someone else left Sukuna at the shrine in a bug cage, and Reimu didn't even know about it before Alice found and took Sukuna.

The bug cage is canon, it's from one of Reimu's endings. It's actually to protect her from insects and animals.

She's a final boss though. Does she really need that protection? I mean, for when sleeps, yeah, but...

I don't think being a final boss has anything to do with it. Marisa is a heroine in almost every game and has all those magicks, still, Kasen's tiger did quite the damage on her arm.

Her mallet is out of power, so she's tiny and apparently helpless for a little while (暫く) until it recharges. ZUN was typically vague about how long that would take.

Ah, I wasn't aware. I don't have the game, and I hadn't researched the endings.

I don't think that a bug cage is going to protect her from Suika. I can't imagine Sukuna being very popular among oni.

Doesn't Suika canonically live in Heaven now though? I figure Sukuna should be fairly safe.

I don't believe that Suika, Yuugi or any oni would bear a grudge against Shinmyoumaru. After all, she's centuries removed from the actions of her ancestor and didn't even know the history of the Miracle Mallet until she got suckered into Seija's plan.

That's actually one of Koishi's attacks in Hopeless Masquerade. As her queued 8B, she will suddenly have an idea that forms the classic light bulb above her head that will physically hit her opponent.

But yes, there is plenty of win contained in this strip.
