I did a LOT of internet research, looked at gun porn videos on youtube (some are pretty funny [link] ) , and got my hands on some airsoft gun replicas to get the details right! Doing contemporary technology research is harder than just making future or fantasy designs up...

Here are some insights I used in this picture from others:
batangbatugan - keep everything moving, you can use wind effects on everything for drama!
elpinoy - you can use almost any color for the skintones, but saturate the midtones
jpdans4 - "man, her abs look weird. Maybe you should fix the lineart lol"
muse33 - adding small highlights on the face is a makeup technique that works in digipaintings, too
