Maybe he thought it was one of those questions that states an opinion, then asks if the questionee agrees, e.g. "This outfit looks megas good on me, dont'cha think?"
According to the note history it was always the same basically. The two sentences have the exact same syntactic meaning though in English though. KChasm's version just has "dont'cha think" in a cleft at the end, instead of at the beginning.
