Most common way of dealing with treason involved strangling the guilty by hanging them, Cutting them down before they expired followed by castration, the removal and burning of the traitor's internal organs while they where still alive, The body would be then decapitated and quartered with the parts most commonly Gibbeted as a warning to others.
However in 1814 this was amended so that they would first be executed by hanging and then dismembered posthumously. And in 1870 it was reduced to death by hanging.
Women where spared that fate and only burnt at the stake with a bag of gunpowder tied to the back of their neck, And persons of rank where simply beheaded.
