I just saw this and it's a strange mixture of things from LeMay's career. He was the commander of XXI Bomber Command in the Pacific and responsible for the air war conducted over Japan. Hence the flames from the fire bombing of Tokyo. The uniform that the character is wearing is post October 1, 1947 since The USAF blue uniform was not used until the USAF was a separate branch from the Army (Army Air Corps). He was the commander of SAC (Strategic Air Command) from 1948 - 1957, the time frame that Boeing's B-52 was developed. As far as the Stone Age comment, that actually came from the Vietnam period. His comment, “We should bomb Vietnam back into the stone age”, came early in the US involvement in the Vietnam war.
