Why would a shotgun have rifling? Isn't it a close range weapon with a shot that spreads out?

You're right, a shotgun is never rifled.

Incorrect. Many shotgun models have rifled barrels available for firing slugs.

Problem is that rifled barrels arent so good for buckshot.
