Shigure's very last voyage was with Ryuuhou's convoy HI-87 from Moji to Formosa.

After being the sole survivor of three different battles (Vella Gulf, Surigao Strait and the destruction of the Unryuu and her other two escorts Hinoki and Momi) Shigure's fate was sealed in 24 January 1945, when she was finally sunk, fullfilling an old japanese proverb: "A thing repeated will occur a third time!"

I thought it was because the Japanese saw how Taigei/Ryuuhou looks so similar to Shigure (not to mention that it was drawn by the same artist), so some like to pair them together.
