Danmaku must always have an open space! Even if you can just move up and down you still have to be able to dodge it by moving left or right... Or bombing.

According to the author, background in all panels are all parody of Laputa: Castle in the Sky, you can even see the hang glider in panel 4 of Danmaku Games 2.
Plus, Renton from Eureka Seven is in panel 4 of Danmaku Games 1, but he is too small so no one will likely notice.
