People can say that the Youkai Jesus meme is mostly known in the west, but I'm pretty sure the Japanese know their stuff.

you can, but the holiday literally translates to "more Christ" so doing so kind-of misses the point.

Yeah, but if you're not Christian, you don't really care whether you're missing the point or not.

It was originally a pagan holiday, as Shou notes. Really, a lot of religions had a Holiday roundabouts this time of year.

Not "More Christ" but a Mass (as in the Catholic sacrament of Eucharist) for Christ. A Mass in honor of Christ's birth, regardless if the day is totally wrong. Placed there to take advantage of the many other holidays around Winter Solstice for the old Roman Catholic Church during the days of the Roman Empire.

That makes more sense now that I think about it.
And since the Romans knew what day he was born on it would have been easy to roundup and execute them had they dared celebrate it on the real date.

But who is going to question celebrating on the day to the god of invincibility.

What's up? You two seem so gloomy!
    MERRY CHRISTMAS!
To perform such pagan rituals in front of a Buddhist Temple Gate! Hijiri would grieve at this!
    Toramaru! Merry Christmas!
