  • ペンギンのおさんぽは、腹ばいで移動する子とかもいて、めちゃめちゃかわいかったです。
    ぼくはもっぱら動画で撮影してました!
    結構な長距離を散歩させてて見応えたっぷりでした。

There were even little chicks moving around on their bellies in the penguin walk, and they were just so frickin' adorable. Even I spent the whole time shooting videos!

They had the penguins walk quite a distance, so there was plenty worth seeing.

Should have gotten the wife a zoom lens. 15-85mm is generally a good catch-all for most situations.

And that, my friend, is why I stick to cheap digital cameras. No hassle photo-taking shenanigans! (And not fit for a pro, obviously.) Still need to find a shutter release cable, though. It's mind-bogglingly impossible to find a shop that has 'em in stock where I am! Maybe I should just give up and cobble up a quick 'n dirty DIY cable...

For the poll, Close-up shots are my favorites. Though, for some odd reason, my hunch tells me the majority of the answers will gravitate towards Low-angle shots...

Those are worse. DSLRs have instantaneous autofocus because they make use of light to determine focus. Any camera that isn't a DSLR has to make use of contrast-based autofocus which is generally slower than a DSLR's phase-detect AF. High-end mirrorless and fixed-lens prosumer cameras generally have the better contrast-detect AF mechanisms while cheap digital cameras get stuck with the bottom of the lot.

So you may not be wasting time changing the lens in a cheap digital camera, but you pay for that with (significantly) slower and generally not-so-accurate autofocus. And by the time your camera decides to focus properly your subject has already left the frame. And believe me when I say that you really don't want to deal with contrast AF if possible when shooting in snowy environments.

A lot of higher end mirrorless and even some compact cameras have Hybrid AF now with Phase-detect AF baked into their sensors so they can AF quite fast

As a pro, until recently I just used my older DSLR as my second camera. The camera body is less important. The lenses I uses cost much more or the same as the body. When doing big client shoots I sometimes rent cameras so I can have once for each lens. Before high capacity memory cards, I sometimes had two cameras with the same lens so I could just continue shooting after the other card was full. It's fun.

The lens the α6000 comes with is an 18-55mm so it should be adequate. From the look of things, she either has 355mm/f1.8 or 50mm/f1.8. In any case, I wouldn't recommend starting on a prime but I guess she wanted quality shots.

Erriely enough 4/3s are faster than mirrorless, albeit with a smaller sensor so speed isn't there for DSLRs. As kokiase said, mirrorless cameras are fast and I've enjoyed my α6000.

As a side note, I guess there's no point tagging α6000 and sony since the camera shape matches it but doesn't have the long or any explicitly visible sign of it?
