Way back in the day, at a cafe in the summer resort boom town of Kiyosato, I ordered something with a name like "Prairie Aroma", and they sent in the order as "Yes, sir! One hot coffee!" Then call it "coffee"! :-)

Today is the Touhou Spring Cherry Fest convention in Taiwan. My regards to all the attendees!

Reader-added tags include "Reality is heartless", "I've been there", and "The rest omitted".

The survey says it's all in the cards:

    What game shall we play?
    • Poker
    • Sevens
    • Old Maid
    • Daihinmin
    • Blackjack

And if all goes well, your opponent in the survey ISN'T named D'arby.

If you only have so many menu items, the only people who really "need" the full-length names are the people ordering the food (so they know, roughly, what they're getting). And, unless you have one item that is insanely popular with the others being relatively rare (or you allow for ridiculous levels of order customization a la Starbucks), then information theory itself would suggest that your other, between-employee messages don't need a lot of information to work well.

    Iruel said about custom food

Not so long time ago (a year maybe), local pizzeria branch had menu for pizza with just ingredients and customers had to pick desired. Lately they have "sets" of pizzas with predefined ingredients, however customer still can order custom pizza if he knows what cooks have (usually ingredients and ovens in plain sight).
Menu was look like on 1st panel (plastic bars), if not used fancy TV set (some branches of this pizzeria can have 'em)

That reminds me of WhichWich (and I should have used them instead of Starbucks for the example, honestly), if only because your order is made by selecting the bag corresponding to the type of sandwich you want and then you mark all of the add-ons you want on it.

Reminds me of Yukko ordering the Chicken Bar.

Okay, so I'll have, ummm, a Jersey Milk...Royal... Chocolat Soft Serve...Mix, please.
Somehow, the soft serve seems to get more powerful as you go down the list.
    It's abbreviated pretty readily, huh.
Choujagahara Service Area (outbound from Tokyo)...
    Okay, one mix, coming up!
    It's like poker, isn't it.
    That's How It Is
Sno-Ice (Strawberry, Blueberry, Mango-Blueb- Premiere Raw Cream Soft Serve "Cremiere" Tajiri Osaki Jersey Milk Soft Serve Royal Chocolat Soft Serve Jersey Milk/Royal Chocolat Soft Serve Mix
Not a typo; it uses the French "chocolat" pronunciation.
