The two submarines in question here are the Marcello-class submarine Comandante Cappellini and the Marconi-class submarine Luigi Torelli.

After Italy surrendered, Comandante Cappellini was captured by the Japanese at Sabang, Indonesia where the Kriegsmarine renamed her UIT-24. After the surrender of Germany, the IJN integrated her into the fleet as I-503.

For the Luigi Torelli, the same fate awaited her, as she was one of four Italian submarines operating in the Pacific when Italy surrendered (along with Comandante Cappellini and two others). She was renamed UIT-25 by the Kriegsmarine, then later I-504 by the IJN.

Both submarines were captured by the USN in Kobe when the war ended.
