This reminds me of an experiment where many people actually can't tell the difference between versions of iPhone.

For me, it was when a group of idiots full of themselves, calling themselves experts on natural mineral water was set to test taste new products of mineral water and the they were going into such depth on the taste and what hints of minerals they could detect in each new glass, when in reality each glass was filled with the exact same water from a garden hose out back.

According to the Mythbusters, death metal is more effective. Seriously.

I think it has more to do with sound in general. The soothing voice recording was quieter and had interruptions when she wasn't speaking, while the death metal was blaring louder sound constantly.

The hypothesis to further test would be whether it's simply vibrations in the air (I.E. sound) that help plants grow (possibly because thick cell walls makes movement difficult, so vibrations help them in their expanding reach), and hence ANY sound, so long as it is loud and constant, helps grow plants.

The stuff about classical music or saying nice things to plants was just projection and wishful thinking.

It's typically a misunderstood suggestion. Plants, after-all, don't have ears and don't care for one's word choice. The point of the exercise is that the gardener pay more attention to the plant and its needs through casual humanization.

If you play classical music for plants, it makes them taste better, you know?
    Here, try this.
Delicious! It certainly does impart a sublime taste!
I find that a little hard to believe.
That's the one that didn't hear the music, though...
