As stupid and ugly as the handgun mount looks, they are actually pretty nice on SBR rifles. Nearly instant continuation of fire if your rifle malfunctions. Also allows you to gas up both firearms afterwards without fearing of putting away the functional gun to work on the non-functional one. Same concept of ready mag. Have the backup equipment up front to save time over rummaging through pouches.

Except most of the time it'll be dead weight. Also you can't go prone with bipod deployed. Not to mention it fucks with the balance of the rifle if you have to shoot off-hand.

Oh yeah for a precision rifle, it doesn't make much sense, but for a specialized indoor SBR I like it. The dead weight doesn't bother me because the speed is more than worth it. Same reason why most of my rifles have ready mags installed.
