He finally gets them together in a hotel room. They just blush for five minutes and then attempt to save their goodbyes. He yells and brings them a book with -ing INSTRUCTIONS. The assists them and guides them from the background and occassionally lends a hand to make sure everything goes right.
Naturally, he is the stepfather. He has to move in after they almost burn down the kitchen since the girl can't cook. He is on better terms with the kid than they are. He does everything: tutoring, cooking, repairs, buying, etc. to support their love.
Finally after a lifetime he's on his deathbed: "You two...Come here. Sixty years sure went by fast, huh...At times I wondered if I was wasting my own youth away, but...looking at you like are now, all grown up and healthy, I must say...Helping you along the way to reach your happiness has been the greatest accomplishment of my life, and I wouldn't trae it for anything else...We've had some good times, Lord Yamane..."
At the funeral, the two shuffle around, stare at their feet, then go separate ways. He screams and rises from the grave out of sheer frustration.
