In a real photo, chromatic abberation is the result of prismatic effects of the camera lens: not all wavelengths focus on the same spot, making it look like some colors are out of alignment with the others.

Agreed. Ruins a lot of beautiful pictures. :(
At least there seems to be methods out there for getting rid of it.
