She's wrong? Is there any other form of art Japan is now more known for doing in modern times?
Surprisingly, searching "japanese modern art" as an image in google does NOT turn up any anime or hentai related images for the first 50 images. Although that is probably a gross generalization of how all art is distributed in Japan; of course anime is extremely popular.
Now, what I want to know is what exactly Akigumo drew that could upset Warspite. Given that Warspite is in a team where the most prominent fighters have midriff two pieces, champion heavyweight Musashi doesn't wear a shirt, Shimikaze doesn't wear pants, and an entire combat class goes about in swimsuits all day. Warspite isn't in a good position to be holier-than-thou to just mild sexual content while most of the girls look like that.
It must be some serious matters Akimugo is drawing.

That isn't surprising at all. Pixiv artists don't tag their works as "Japanese modern art" for Google to search. As a fun experiment, think of whatever works of art or culture your nation produced that feature most prominently in your mind, then Google your nation name and then modern art, and see what comes up.
Even outside of teh weebs, if you ask people what works of art come from Japan, they're going to say anime or maybe video games, to the point that if I go in a bookstore, I see "Draw Japanese Cartoons" books that are clearly not drawn by actual Japanese people.
