Anyone got any idea why lulu removed most of his/her warship girls pictures?

if you have a weibo account and understand chinese, there was this shitstorm that brewed around 3 months back. Lulu's previous plagiarisms of kancolle art were once again brought to the front (she did acknowledge and had apologized for this previously - and the original artist posted a tweet forgiving her). Consequentially she deleted her weibo account with her art and swore off drawing WSG art.

The darker side of the entire thing was that the user who dredged up this sordid affair was later exposed to be a member of the fan community of WSG who was apparently jealous of Lulu's popularity (viz. his/her own - I think she was some glow worm roleplayer). The said user was then exposed and was also driven out from the fanbase.

The entire thing left a bad taste in everyone's mouth. Most of the original artists and fans supported lulu, but the fact that the community was undermined by one of its own revealed the fragile foundations of the fickle fanbase upon which WSG was built upon. The fact that it occurred less than a month after Moefantasy's victory against patch in the lawsuit thing cast a pall over the festive mood as well.

    Sorry no links.

This is why we can't have nice things. One of the great things on Touhou and why it became so far reaching was that Zun was very open on his intellectual properties. It doesn't help that patent laws in general are completely useless unless you have the funds to agressively enforce it yourself, which kind of undermies the whole point of patent agencies.

I think i'm missing something here.
Is making fanart considered plagiarism in China? (that's hilarious)

Or did Lulu actually straight up copy other people's work?

Yes, she apparently did (in terms of composition, pose etc)

This was one of the comics (post #2423631 vs. post #2048901) which was flagged up as a "copy" - in terms of Hood and Musashi's sitting position, the comedic "effect" overall, and the punchline - although I think the logic in this example is a bit tenuous.

There were other earlier works of hers that were more blatantly trace jobs.

It's rather sad though considering she did produce work of overall high quality after all.

The way China works is that copying and reverse engineering is fine... after all, doesn't everything belong to the people? Except the stuff that is mine. That doesn't belong to you~

Actually, that's as long as no one can enforce the law, due to lack of evidence or loopholes

I'm not in a position to comment as I'm not from China, but judging by the periodic witch hunts that weibo users and baidu forum users regularly launch against artists that plagiarize, I'd say that the chinese weebs are at least trying to shed themselves of the notoriety associated with chinese products.

Of course, the rabid ferocity and self-aggrandizement that goes along with these witch hunts is another issue. WSG itself is a perennial target of ridicule and insult among some Chinese weebs.

Yeah all Chinese are communist scums who should be driven from the Earth, we get it, Jimmy, now go watch out for that Nixon guy.

Shit and giggles aside, Chinese netizens are growing more and more serious about plagiarizing, believe it or not. I wouldn't call it a witch hunt, but yeah, sometimes things can get pretty ugly. Fortunately the crowd is not blind...or let's say "not completely blind", they do think before they act.
If memory serves me right, there is a long ass and complicated story behind this Kancolle and WSG feud, featuring Kancolle, WSG, the unauthorized "Chinese server version", and another probably-dead-now version whose current name I'm not sure with. The result is what you are seeing here: Some of these people are having way too much fun role playing as some sort of crusader, associating with WSG is a serious crime for them. If you enjoy both KC and WSG like me, then you are the biggest traitor of all, even worse than those who only enjoys WSG.
Nevertheless, I believe what stroke lulu down is a combination of shadows from past and just downright misfortune. She did copy, and she did plagiarize. The forgiveness from the original creator of those art cannot and will not protect her from the unreasonable ones, especially when the entire Kancolle-WSG feud is deliberately brought into the picture.
At least she is not giving up drawing, but there will be no more shipgirl art I suppose, no matter which game they came from.
