It's a matter of setting the right flags. Renshouhou-chan is basically a comic relief character, too, but it took heavy damage.

If anything, Ikazuchi is filling in the "Squirrel Girl" role of comedic "above it all meta humor" that allows her to stay out of any serious ramifications of other people's screw-ups.
