Having visited London... it really was like that. And forget an umbrella, I'd forgotten my jacket on the bus from the airport because I was too bloody jet lagged! Thankfully, it was returned to me... on the last day of the trip.

Furthermore, the cover is extended manually - on the handle of the umbrella however is a little red button, cleverly disguised as a button that would normally extend the umbrella. Whatever you do, don't touch it. You'll release the top of the umbrella, and then fire the built-in ejector seat. WOOSH.

It's definitely James Bond, there's three Bond Car gadgets in there - almost every Aston Martin Bond has driven has had machine-guns built in, one of them (I forget which one) had extendable bulletproof screens, and the one from... either Die Another Day or The World is Not Enough had that active camouflage system built in.

THe Kingsman umbrellas do the gun and shield thing explicitly. The only think it doesn't do is the active camo, so I'm pretty sure it's moreso a Kingsman ref, with a little bit of Bond embellishment.

No doubt that is Kingsmen ref, the functions of that umbrella 90% like the one Eggsy used in his last battle

Why not go for 14.5mm machine gun rounds then? Much better and much faster to ensure the kill. It'd be too heavy to lift around easily though.

Everything will be fine. It's not like her umbrella has some kind of built-in silent injector or something, and certainly does not contain anything poisonous, especially ricin.

Polonium. It's polonium 210 that Gangut most definitely does not have. And most certainly isn't using on critics of Vladimir Putin.

... OK, I'll bite: What's the deal behind Bismarck's reservations about raising an umbrella "from the military side"? Is that a thing in the real-life German military?

The stealth function is a logical extension of how the Kingsman umbrella's shield mode lets you see what's on the other side by projecting a camera view onto the umbrella itself. So yeah it's totally a Kingsman reference.

Soldiers don't generally wear umbrellas - you have a hat and raincoat. Some armies have exceptions for when you're wearing dress uniforms or carrying folders of documents or something, but usually soldiers need their hands free and/or are walking in formation where it'd *seriously* get in the way.

I remember a 2000s comedic wuxia film with a similar weaponized umbrella, but being set in Imperial China, the umbrella launched chopstick-sized darts, had a flamethrower, powerful magnet (used to catch knives thrown at other targets), and shield. The only thing it couldn't do is protect its wielder from water. LOL

Ah, I see. It's like that one wristwatch with everything from a radar, grappling hook, video camera and even a radio, but can't tell time because they ran out of space.

Though interestingly, apart from Warspite, pretty sure both Fusou sisters as well as practically all four Kamikaze might opt for the classic Japanese umbrella rather than the raincoats the military would use because traditionals... I can't say the same for the Ises though.

Warspite can probably get away with that because she can be said as posh~

    Meanwhile in Arnhem, 1944:
    http://www.pegasusarchive.org/arnhem/tatham_warter.htm

During the battle, Father Egan, the Battalion Padre, was trying to cross to a building on the other side of the street to visit the wounded in its cellar. He made an attempt to move over but was forced to seek shelter from intense mortar fire. He then noticed Digby Tatham-Warter casually approaching him. The Major opened his old and battered umbrella and held it over Egan's head, beckoning him "Come on, Padre". Egan drew Tatham-Warter's attention to all the mortars exploding everywhere, to which came the reply "Don't worry, I've got an umbrella." Shortly afterwards Lieutenant Pat Barnett was sprinting over an open area he had been ordered to hold when he caught the sight of Digby visiting men who were defending the sector, holding his opened umbrella over his head. Barnett was so surprised he stopped dead in his tracks and suggested to the Major "That thing won't do you much good.", to which Digby replied, after staring at him with exaggerated shock, "Oh my goodness Pat, what if it rains?".

    It's rain.
    Lawks!
I've got a brolly with me.
    ...raising an umbrella?
    It's Bismarck.
    Well prepared, aren't you.
    Ah!
    Ach... so...
    A fine day to you.
Heheh... This umbrella here is a British Intelligence special spy item!
The capital, London... I wanna try going once.
There's a machine gun built into it!
    You're looking splendid there.
No, I was talking about the dress code...
I've got a habit of walking with my umbrella from my time in London, since it gets sudden downpours.
And with its miniature camera and projection equipment, it even has stealth capabilities!
    As a soldier, isn't that a bit eyebrow-raising?
With its special superalloy fibre, it can repel any attack!
