    I put him down on the second floor, then started to read some files I just found. I was running on Nemesis logic, that is, once Nemesis is downed, he will not revive until you leave the room. If you do return, you'd find his body gone and only a pool of purple blood remains.
    Well apparently Jack doesn't work that way, so when I was focusing on those files, I got an axe shoved up my ass hard. I cried in terror.

    That's because it isn't nor was it trying to be. Resident Evil 7 is Resident Evil in namesake only and is more of a re-imagining of the series. Capcom could of easily released 7 under a different name as a new series, but they kept the Resident Evil name for guaranteed sales and brand recognition imo.

    Resident Evil 7 is still a legit Resident Evil game. The story behind the Bakers is linked to a BOA.

    Presumably people take the 1st person camera as a sign that Capcom were just copying Outlast&other first person spookfests like that and just slapped on Resident Evil tittle on it as a marketing plot, which is rather ironic considering that the original RE was originally supposed to be a first person action/adventure game with horror elements.

    There's nothing wrong with taking things at face value.

    In my opinion, it's better if it stays that way. Long running series only invoke images of poorly used cameo characters, fan pandering down the road, and the fact at some point Chris punched a 100 ton boulder and we have to accept that as canon.

    being in the middle of re-watching Markiplier's playthrough of RE7, it's actually kind of funny now how much his confidence jumped after getting a shotgun.

    Ethan Must Die got him to start cursing up a storm again, though, like Iowa's doing here.

    Honestly, at this point Capcom could've made RE7 an exact clone of RE1 and old-school fans still would've found something to complain about.
