I believe that sword is Odin's Zantetsuken, which is a Primal capable of possessing those who wield it to turn them into "Odin".
I think this picture is some kind of "best friend snapping the main character out of the evil trance" kind of thing, since Haurchefant was the best friend a guy could ever have.
