  • 92年〜95年生まれのオタクって、小学生の頃はFLASH黄金時代で、中学時代はニコニコ動画の全盛期で、インターネットの一番面白い時代を見て育ってきた世代だと思う。

I feel that otakus born in between '92 and '95 are the generation that grew up with the best era of the Internet; with the FLASH golden age happening during elementary school and Niconico reaching its heyday during middle school.

I might be born about 6 years earlier than the timeline projection, but I think my life history can be summed up quite succintly with this.

I was born before '92 but still missed the era of "FLASH golden age".

But I was able to play Skifree, so there's that.

I feel like early to mid 90s is too late to really recall much of the 'flash age', or dial-up for most people. My brother was born in '94 and he certainly wasn't trolling around on Newgrounds in "the good old days" with me at the end of the 90s and we had broadband by 2000, maybe this guy was 1992 and got an unusually early start online.

Also for anyone from the US you'd replace Nico with Youtube and all the Highschool and magical girls with DBZ, Naruto, etc and the sorts of mobile games he's talking about here don't really seem to have taken hold over here in the same way among 'nerd' culture, I'd say the US geek culture went more the direction that console and PC gaming got more and more mainstream while mobile games tended to remain more stuff like puzzlers and such.

I guess this artist doesn't have a high opinion on Kemono Friends.

94, only really got completely started in high school, though I had an interest in gunpla since childhood. Viewed nico and flash stuff in the reverse order of the chart.

I was born in '88. Chinese kids back then can still watch anime like Saint Seiya and Conan, but if I have to pinpoint the time when I became an otaku, it's 2007, my first college year.

The Kemono Friends bit is very relatable. After a day wageslaving, it's great to just stare at the screen without further brain input.

Shit, right in the feels. It's like watching one of those old kumikyoku, or even more recent, like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0zKNCU4BAE. It's probably related to getting older, but why does everything suck nowadays?

Yea, KF isn't about a gripping plot - it's pretty much like it said in the image, it's just something to let your brain shutdown with. And hey, for what it's worth, it did have some heart to it. For a cheap adaptation of a gatcha with terrible CGI, it's actually quite amazing that it got the following it did.
