Friend of mine told me this is actually a meme call-out to the Korean military since they have to worry about any dropped ammunition which made this even better.

Pretty sure it's the same in America, to keep track of bullets used in order to keep track of training costs, afaik.

Every bullet counts, literally. If there's one brass missing at the range, the entire battalion has to find it, no matter how you do it, and no matter how long it takes. Probably the most famous meme out of the ROK Army.

Apparently it is kinda a lifesaver during an actual firefight as you may never know when low ammo becomes a problem

The reason why it's such a meme is because we don't do it for the ammo's sake, but because higher-ups are worried that a soldier might do something bad with that extra bullet.
