Perhaps I should have been more clear. The thigh gap in this picture is not colored appropriately to match the background. The foreground and background were created in two separate steps and then merged. It's not uncommon for an artist to forget to draw in the background in such a gap, though most examples are between lengths of hair.

That's probably the lower part of her sailor uniform between her thighs.

I hadn't considered that; it just seemed out of place to me.
