Hmm...It doese but there don't seem to be any numbers invovled, just letters. I say it could Chemisty or something too but not so sure myself.

Algebra. Each letter stands for a number.

He's figured that TCP/IP = TC/I (Since dividing a number with another number gives 1, the P's cancel out) and since he's misread the I as 1, he's got TCP/IP as TC.

I = Identity matrix and I^(-1) = 1, so it's perfectly valid for the calculation to be TC(I^-1) = TCI = TC.

as a networking major, i am facepalming so hard right now.
