Fusou (and Asagumo and Michishio) didn't even make it to the battleships, they were sunk by the destroyer screen ahead of the battleships, and Yamashiro was seriously damaged. The American destroyers alone could have won the battle.
Also of note was that all but one of the battleships were from Pearl Harbor - refloated, repaired, and ready for revenge.
