Took me a while to get it. Getting upset because one's significant other didn't notice the change in one's hairstyle.
One of my father's half-jokes is that he always responds to my mother's going to a hair appointment by saying "it looks lovely" the first time he speaks to her after the appointment has finished (usually when she calls to say she's coming back). This nearly always means he's saying it "looks lovely" over the phone, but it is a successful survival tactic, nonetheless.
