Not actually that good in this mode in my experience thus far. There isn't really much of a team to hide behind so basically once a gun DD makes contact it can just keep harassing them to death, and if there is a CV in the match there is crap all AA by and large so enjoy the perma spotting unless your CV can get him off you with fighters. The Gremlin is much more OP I feel due to be basically the only genuinely generalist DD at that tier along with it's high HP pool to survive a mistake or two.

Cruisers are just non-existent though as what the GC is doing to that Poor Emerald is 100% accurate. Really T5 cruisers in general are trash, but they're ULTRA trash in this mode.

Whole thing was pretty silly, Kamikazes never even heard of the concept of firing their guns. Straight roll to rank 1.

I ended up just taking Nicholas to ranked and if I encounter a Kamikaze I just rush it down, concealment difference is only 5.4 vs 5.8 so they don't have time to break off. It would be different if there was actual teamwork and he smoked up a cruiser while providing spotting, but as it is the enemy DDs almost never have support so he's hosed unless I run into torps. The one time I encountered a gremy my team had one too and just torped theirs in his smoke.

I wanted to take Furutaka (probably the only worthwhile cruiser) but it wasn't worth the captain retraining I'd have needed to do

And then, when you do get a CV if your team has a Texas then it's a hilarious slaughter.
