I like to think she isn't human herself, or at least not entirely. A third option could be that she had been exposed to whatever environment this image implies for a set time. Could have been a nuclear fallout, or maybe some kind of virus created by plants to wipe out humanity by painfully changing their cells into plant matter by reworking their system from inside and out. Either way you look at it, she's immune (or at least resistant) to whatever those guys are wearing the masks for.

Judging from the commentary it seems like the people of this world (or maybe the supersoldier-enhanced portion of it) gradually morph into trees after they die (or have seeds that grow post-mortem), and the team here is performing some kind of burial recovery work (and maybe search and rescue too, if there are any survivors). Dead people have part of their trees grafted to a central "Great Grave Tree" to memorize them as part of an implied funeral ritual.

...sorta like recovering dog tags, I guess?

More like she and her team is there in the "aftermath" of some event.

This reminds me a lot of cataclysm. Mutagenic samples is all fun and games until someone becomes a tree or a sapient colony of fungus-berries.
