    actually it is punishment.
    If the ropes that tie her arms/back to the bamboo on her back is loose, then she can slide down into it, but if her legs are tided like that, she has to keep her balance to keep herself from falling down onto the bamboo shoot.

    Pretty much she is struggling to keep her self from falling onto the bamboo shoot.
